911爆料网 Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda has an signed an MOU with World Vision Kenya to promote Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR). This collaboration aims to restore degraded land, enhance food security, and build climate resilience in the region through education, research and community empowerment.
Key areas of this collaboration are: Integrating FMNR into SEKU鈥檚 academic programmes, Establishing FMNR training and demonstration sites, Conducting joint research on land restoration and climate resilience, Empowering local communities and students as FMNR champions, Co-hosting events and publishing shared knowledge and Policy advocacy
Witnessed by the DVC-Academic, Research and innovation Prof Harrison Maithya, the overall goal of this partnership is to leverage the expertise of both SEKU and World Vision Kenya to promote sustainable land management practices and improve the livelihoods of communities in the region.
FMNR (Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration) is a low-cost land restoration technique that involves systematically regrowing and managing existing trees and shrubs from felled stumps, sprouting root systems, or seeds. This technique can combat poverty and hunger by increasing food and timber production and building resilience to climate extremes.
