Pioneer Insurance in collaboration with Hearts of Green and Wangari Maathai Institute yesterday launched a tree planting project aimed at planting and growing of trees along the University highway from the Main Gate to the Northern part of the campus. The project involves planting trees on both sides of the highway covering a stretch of nine (9) kilometers.
The launch was graced by members of the University Management Board led by the vice chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda, guest from the Ministry of Education, State Department of Research Higher Education and the leadership of the three organizations. Phase one has been completed and more than 3000 trees have been plated on a stretch of 4.5 KM and phase two will start soon.
Hearts of Green Organization and Wangari Maathai Institute under the Landscape Repair and Transformation has partnered with Pioneer Insurance to rehabilitate 9KM stretch.
Based on our philosophy; Arid to green their aim is to transform the stretch into a green space by growing indigenous and fruit trees.
