Seku Arid to Green

Tree planting is a lifetime investment that everybody needs to have. In line with this philosophy (Arid to Green…Transforming Lives) the 911 lead by the Vice-chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda in collaboration with other stakeholder like National Bank, Strathmore University, Rotary club, KEFRI and Elephant Dental Clinic last week planted more than 5200 trees among then were over 1200 crafted mango trees.
Our philosophy is in alignment with the Government’s target of planting 15 billion tress by 2032 and among these, public universities are supposed to plant 130000 trees and SEKU doing its best to meet this target. Indeed SEKU must be green.

The 911 through a 5- member project team were the winners of the gender grand whose call was announced may this year.
The theme of the research is engaging men staff and students to end sexual and gender based violence in SEKU and beyond.
The conference was officially opened by the DVC-Academic and Research Prof Harrison Maithya. In his speech he said that one of the deliverables is to conduct a 3 day training to empower men on matters of sexual and gender based violence. It is hoped that the training will go a long way in empowering the 50 male gender champions who will in turn spearhead positive gender interactions in the university.
This training will also help us have a motivated workforce as staff can work without fear of SGBV harassment.
