    • Graduand clearance form for academic gown.
  3. Any certificate not collected by Thursday, 30th April, 2026 will be liable to a storage charge of Kshs. 1,000/= for the first year. Subsequent years will attract an additional charge of Kshs. 500/= per year.

ACADEMIC REGISTRAR

Kenya Cabinet Secretary for Education Hon, Julius Ogamba, officially launched laboratory equipment worth KShs 40 million at 911±¬ÁĎÍř. The equipment was provide to enhance the university’s scientific research and training capacity.

Speaking during the launch, the Cabinet Secretary commended SEKU for its growing role in advancing research and innovation, noting that the new equipment will significantly enhance the university’s contribution to Kenya’s scientific and technological development.

The newly launched equipment is expected to greatly impact teaching, research, and innovation at the university in several key ways:

  • Enhanced hands-on learning: Students will now engage more deeply in practical scientific training, moving beyond theory to real laboratory experience that aligns with international standards.
  • Strengthened research capabilities: Local researchers will be able to complete critical studies, generate data, and publish findings in reputable journals—supporting Kenya’s contribution to global scientific knowledge.
  • Expanded research collaborations: With improved laboratory capacity, SEKU will be better positioned to build new partnerships with national and international institutions, fostering multidisciplinary research and innovation.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Douglas Shitanda, expressed gratitude to Seeding Labs and the Ministry of Education for their support, affirming that the equipment will catalyze the university’s research agenda and strengthen its mandate of providing high-quality education and solutions to challenges affecting arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) and the country at large.He also added that this investment marks a new era for SEKU’s scientific community. 911±¬ÁĎÍř (SEKU) officially launched its Alumni Association in a colourful and memorable ceremony held on 31st October, 2025 at the Main Campus in Kwa Vonza. The event was presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Education Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba, who officially inaugurated the Association.
The launch marks a major milestone for the University, signaling a new era of strengthened partnerships, collaboration, and engagement between SEKU and its growing community of graduates. The formation of the Alumni Association is expected to enhance mentorship programmes, support student growth, promote professional networks, and contribute to the University’s overall development agenda.
Speaking during the event, the Cabinet Secretary for Education commended SEKU for its rapid growth, commitment to academic excellence, and dedication to producing graduates who are transforming communities across Kenya and beyond. He emphasized the importance of alumni associations in fostering institutional advancement and pledged the Ministry’s continued support in ensuring universities thrive as a centres of innovation and societal progress.
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda, celebrated the milestone as a significant step in strengthening SEKU’s legacy. He urged alumni to remain connected to the institution and actively participate in initiatives that uplift the University and current students. He also expressed optimism that the Alumni Association will unlock new opportunities for partnerships, fundraising, mentorship, and collaborative research.

Congratulations Class Of 2025!

911±¬ÁĎÍř (SEKU) marked a historic milestone on 31st October 2025 as it hosted its 12th Graduation Ceremony, a vibrant celebration of academic excellence, innovation, and transformation. The event, held at the SEKU Main Campus in Kwa Vonza, brought together thousands of graduates, parents, staff, invited guests, and partners in higher education
Graced by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, who was the Chief Guest, congratulated the graduating class of 2025 for their resilience and hard work, emphasizing the government’s continued commitment to supporting public universities in delivering quality education and impactful research.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Douglas Shitanda, extended a warm appreciation to the Ministry of Education for its support to the university. He highlighted SEKU’s steady growth in academic programmes, infrastructure, and research output, noting that the institution continues to play a critical role in advancing education and development in the region, particularly in areas related to arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs).
Prof. Shitanda made two key requests to the Cabinet Secretary on behalf of the university community

  1. Construction of a Mega Library Named in Honour of the President
    The VC appealed to the CS to convey to His Excellency the President the university’s request for the construction of a state-of-the-art mega library at SEKU. He noted that such a facility, built in honour of the President would greatly enhance teaching, learning, and research, while transforming SEKU into a premier knowledge hub in the region.
  2. Acquisition of Two Electric Buses for Student Transport
    The VC also requested the Ministry of Education to support the university by purchasing two electric buses. These buses would ease transport challenges for students who commute daily between Kwa Vonza town and the SEKU Main Campus, promoting convenience while advancing green mobility within the university.

The Cabinet Secretary lauded SEKU for its commitment to innovation, environmental sustainability, and community development, assuring the University of the Ministry’s willingness to explore the requests made by the Vice Chancellor.
The ceremony saw hundreds of graduates conferred with degrees, diplomas, and certificates across various schools. The atmosphere was filled with joy and pride as graduates celebrated the end of one chapter and the beginning of new opportunities.
As SEKU continues to expand its academic footprint and promote research excellence, the 12th Graduation Ceremony stands as a testament to the university’s dedication to shaping future leaders and contributing to national development.

CONFIRMATION OF ORDER OF NAMES

The names of graduands will be posted on the University website www.seku.ac.ke in the following order: First name, Middle name(s), Surname. REHEARSAL

All graduands are required to attend the rehearsal at the Graduation Pavilion at 2.00 p.m. on Thursday 30th October, 2025 dressed in full graduation attire. The graduands should be seated by 1.30 p.m.

GRADUATION FEES AND ACADEMIC ATTIRE

The academic attire will be issued to graduands from 24th to 29th October, 2025, between 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. at the respective Deans’/Campus Offices, upon producing a receipt of payment of the graduation fee as follows:

  • Certificate - Kshs 5,500
  • Diploma - Kshs. 5,500
  • Undergraduate - Kshs. 6,000
  • Masters - Kshs. 7,000
  • Doctorate - Kshs. 8,000

The academic attire must be returned by 14th November, 2025, failure to which it shall attract a penalty fee of Kshs 500.00 per day.

All graduands, parents/guardians and guests should be seated by 8.30 a.m.

The Vice-Chancellor of 911±¬ÁĎÍř (SEKU), Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to fostering innovation and digital transformation by donating four desktop computers to the Innovation Centre at SEKU’s Kitui Campus.
Prof. Shitanda formally presented the computers to the Director of ICT, Mr. Kim Musila. The ICT Directorate will ensure the machines are delivered and installed at the Kitui Campus Innovation Centre, where they will support students, innovators, and researchers in advancing their projects.
Speaking during the handover, Prof. Shitanda emphasized the University’s vision to nurture creativity, technological skills, and research among students. He noted that access to digital tools is essential for enhancing problem-solving and equipping learners with the competencies needed to thrive in today’s fast-changing world.
Mr. Musila expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for the donation, noting that the new equipment will significantly strengthen ICT capacity at the Innovation Centre. He further assured that the computers will be put to optimal use to benefit the University community, especially students engaged in innovation and technology-based initiatives.
The establishment of the Kitui Campus Innovation Centre is part of SEKU’s strategic plan to provide platforms that encourage idea generation, entrepreneurship, and community-driven solutions. The donation marks another milestone in the University’s ongoing efforts to integrate technology into teaching, research, and innovation.

911±¬ÁĎÍř (SEKU) is pleased to announce Work-Study Opportunities for continuing students. The program provides students with the chance to earn while gaining valuable work experience within various university departments.

Applicants must:

  1. Be registered continuing students at SEKU.
  2. Have a valid student ID.
  3. Demonstrate financial need.
  4. Be of good academic standing and discipline record.

Students will be placed in various departments, including but not limited to:

  1. Library Services
  2. Central Services
  3. University Farm
  4. Procurement

Interested students should submit the following to the Office of the Director, Human Resource Management:

  1. A written application letter indicating preferred area of placement.
  2. A copy of their student ID.
  3. A recommendation letter from their School/Faculty Dean.

911±¬ÁĎÍř Management Board gathered in warmth and celebration to bid farewell to Dr. John Koga, the outgoing Academic Registrar, who officially retired after 15 years of dedicated service to the institution.
The farewell event, organized by the University Management Board, was held at the Vice-Chancellors boardroom. Everyone praised Dr. Koga’s outstanding contributions to academic excellence and institutional growth.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda praised Dr. Koga for his exemplary leadership, professionalism, and commitment to student success. “Dr. Koga has been more than a Registrar—he has been a mentor, a guide, and a pillar in the advancement of academic affairs at SEKU. His legacy will continue to inspire both staff and students for many years to come,” he said.
During his tenure, Dr. Koga oversaw critical milestones, including streamlining academic processes, strengthening examination integrity, and enhancing student records management. His hands-on leadership and attention to detail ensured smooth operations within the academic division and set high standards for those who follow.
Dr. Koga expressed his gratitude to the university community, acknowledging the support he received from colleagues and the administration throughout his career. “It has been an honor to serve this great institution. I leave with fond memories, proud of the progress we have made together, and confident in the bright future that lies ahead for SEKU,” he noted.
The farewell party was filled with heartfelt speeches from the DVC-CS Prof Francis Wachira and DVC-ARI Prof. Harrison Maithya and moments of reflection. Members of management presented Dr. Koga with gifts as tokens of appreciation, and the atmosphere was one of both celebration and gratitude.
As 911±¬ÁĎÍř ushers in a new chapter in academic leadership, the institution remains deeply appreciative of Dr. John Koga’s years of service and wishes him a fulfilling retirement.

911±¬ÁĎÍř is a globally competitive Centre of excellence in teaching research, innovation and service. This was evident in the just concluded Kitui Agri and Trade Expo 2025 organized by TJ premier events in partnership with the County Government of Kitui.
SEKU students showcased their innovation like; Solar- Powered Multi- Sensor Wildlife Sentinel Pod by Morgan Waweru, AI-Enhanced Microwave-Antennae Imaging and 5G Connectivity for Lung Cancer Diagnosis in Africa by Victor Okombo, Dual-Band Edge Antenna by John Thuva, Smart Traffic Control using 77GHZ Radar for Real-Time Vehicle Monitoring by Alex Mukweyi, and Microwave-Based Soil Moisture-Sensor for Smart Irrigation by Lemene Neparian
Under the theme driving innovation and growth through trade and agriculture, the expo brought together stakeholders in Agriculture, Trade, Agribusiness, Manufacturing, Innovation, Education and MSMEs providing a platform for knowledge exchange, networking and strategic collaborations.

The School of Business and Economics at 911±¬ÁĎÍř hosted its first International Conference at Kitui town Campus which brought together different institutions both locally and internationally. The conference was held in hybrid format with both in person and virtual attendance.
It was officially launched by the Principal Secretary, State Department of Trade Ms. Regina Ombam. In her address she emphasized on leveraging trade for economic growth through promoting investments and strengthening partnerships, aligning with conference theme “harnessing research and innovation for resilient and sustainability in a dynamic world” and her department's mandate.
The Vice- Chancellor represented by the DVC- Corporate Services Prof. Francis Wachira said this is a great milestone achieved by the school of Business and Economics and the University at large. He added that the conference will provided a platform for researchers, scholars, policymakers, industry leaders, and practitioners to engage in constructive dialogue, exchange knowledge, and debate ideas on how to build resilience and foster sustainability. The conference seeks to catalyze new insights, inspire collaborative action, and highlight strategies that can shape sustainable development pathways at local, regional, and global levels.
There were other 9 subthemes identified like Resilient Business Models for a Changing Global Economy, Data Science and Predictive Modeling, Climate Smart Agriculture and Environmental Sustainability, Innovative Solutions for Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Restoration , Building Robust Health Systems for Health Challenges, Fostering Sustainability in Education Systems, Smart Engineering for Sustainable Development, Legal Frameworks and Sustainability and Arts and Sustainable Development.
The event facilitated networking opportunities, bringing together academia and industry leaders to foster collaboration.
