CONFIRMATION OF ORDER OF NAMES

The names of graduands will be posted on the University website www.seku.ac.ke in the following order: First name, Middle name(s), Surname. Note: Graduands are advised not to introduce names other than those used during admission to the University.

REHEARSAL

All graduands are required to attend the rehearsal at the Graduation Pavilion at 2.00 p.m. on Thursday 30th October, 2025 dressed in full graduation attire. The graduands should be seated by 1.30 p.m.

GRADUATION FEES AND ACADEMIC ATTIRE

The academic attire will be issued to graduands from 24th to 29th October, 2025, between 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. at the respective Deans’/Campus Offices, upon producing a receipt of payment of the graduation fee as follows:

  • Certificate - Kshs 5,500
  • Diploma - Kshs. 5,500
  • Undergraduate - Kshs. 6,000
  • Masters - Kshs. 7,000
  • Doctorate - Kshs. 8,000

The academic attire must be returned by 14th November, 2025, failure to which it shall attract a penalty fee of Kshs 500.00 per day.

PUNCTUALITY ON GRADUATION DAY

All graduands, parents/guardians and guests should be seated by 8.30 a.m.

Sensitization Meeting
All cleared Electoral College Representatives (ECR) and Student Governing Council (911) candidates for the 2025/2026 academic year are invited to attend a Sensitization Meeting on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The meeting will be conducted virtually via the KENET online platform, and the access link will be shared through the respective student email addresses.

The Vice-Chancellor of 911 (SEKU), Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to fostering innovation and digital transformation by donating four desktop computers to the Innovation Centre at SEKU’s Kitui Campus.
Prof. Shitanda formally presented the computers to the Director of ICT, Mr. Kim Musila. The ICT Directorate will ensure the machines are delivered and installed at the Kitui Campus Innovation Centre, where they will support students, innovators, and researchers in advancing their projects.
Speaking during the handover, Prof. Shitanda emphasized the University’s vision to nurture creativity, technological skills, and research among students. He noted that access to digital tools is essential for enhancing problem-solving and equipping learners with the competencies needed to thrive in today’s fast-changing world.
Mr. Musila expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for the donation, noting that the new equipment will significantly strengthen ICT capacity at the Innovation Centre. He further assured that the computers will be put to optimal use to benefit the University community, especially students engaged in innovation and technology-based initiatives.
The establishment of the Kitui Campus Innovation Centre is part of SEKU’s strategic plan to provide platforms that encourage idea generation, entrepreneurship, and community-driven solutions. The donation marks another milestone in the University’s ongoing efforts to integrate technology into teaching, research, and innovation.

911 (SEKU) is pleased to announce Work-Study Opportunities for continuing students. The program provides students with the chance to earn while gaining valuable work experience within various university departments.

Applicants must:

  1. Be registered continuing students at SEKU.
  2. Have a valid student ID.
  3. Demonstrate financial need.
  4. Be of good academic standing and discipline record.

Students will be placed in various departments, including but not limited to:

  1. Library Services
  2. Central Services
  3. University Farm
  4. Procurement

Interested students should submit the following to the Office of the Director, Human Resource Management:

  1. A written application letter indicating preferred area of placement.
  2. A copy of their student ID.
  3. A recommendation letter from their School/Faculty Dean.

Deadline for Applications: 10th October, 2025.

911 Management Board gathered in warmth and celebration to bid farewell to Dr. John Koga, the outgoing Academic Registrar, who officially retired after 15 years of dedicated service to the institution.
The farewell event, organized by the University Management Board, was held at the Vice-Chancellors boardroom. Everyone praised Dr. Koga’s outstanding contributions to academic excellence and institutional growth.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda praised Dr. Koga for his exemplary leadership, professionalism, and commitment to student success. “Dr. Koga has been more than a Registrar—he has been a mentor, a guide, and a pillar in the advancement of academic affairs at SEKU. His legacy will continue to inspire both staff and students for many years to come,” he said.
During his tenure, Dr. Koga oversaw critical milestones, including streamlining academic processes, strengthening examination integrity, and enhancing student records management. His hands-on leadership and attention to detail ensured smooth operations within the academic division and set high standards for those who follow.
Dr. Koga expressed his gratitude to the university community, acknowledging the support he received from colleagues and the administration throughout his career. “It has been an honor to serve this great institution. I leave with fond memories, proud of the progress we have made together, and confident in the bright future that lies ahead for SEKU,” he noted.
The farewell party was filled with heartfelt speeches from the DVC-CS Prof Francis Wachira and DVC-ARI Prof. Harrison Maithya and moments of reflection. Members of management presented Dr. Koga with gifts as tokens of appreciation, and the atmosphere was one of both celebration and gratitude.
As 911 ushers in a new chapter in academic leadership, the institution remains deeply appreciative of Dr. John Koga’s years of service and wishes him a fulfilling retirement.

911 is a globally competitive Centre of excellence in teaching research, innovation and service. This was evident in the just concluded Kitui Agri and Trade Expo 2025 organized by TJ premier events in partnership with the County Government of Kitui.
SEKU students showcased their innovation like; Solar- Powered Multi- Sensor Wildlife Sentinel Pod by Morgan Waweru, AI-Enhanced Microwave-Antennae Imaging and 5G Connectivity for Lung Cancer Diagnosis in Africa by Victor Okombo, Dual-Band Edge Antenna by John Thuva, Smart Traffic Control using 77GHZ Radar for Real-Time Vehicle Monitoring by Alex Mukweyi, and Microwave-Based Soil Moisture-Sensor for Smart Irrigation by Lemene Neparian
Under the theme driving innovation and growth through trade and agriculture, the expo brought together stakeholders in Agriculture, Trade, Agribusiness, Manufacturing, Innovation, Education and MSMEs providing a platform for knowledge exchange, networking and strategic collaborations.

The School of Business and Economics at 911 hosted its first International Conference at Kitui town Campus which brought together different institutions both locally and internationally. The conference was held in hybrid format with both in person and virtual attendance.
It was officially launched by the Principal Secretary, State Department of Trade Ms. Regina Ombam. In her address she emphasized on leveraging trade for economic growth through promoting investments and strengthening partnerships, aligning with conference theme “harnessing research and innovation for resilient and sustainability in a dynamic world” and her department's mandate.
The Vice- Chancellor represented by the DVC- Corporate Services Prof. Francis Wachira said this is a great milestone achieved by the school of Business and Economics and the University at large. He added that the conference will provided a platform for researchers, scholars, policymakers, industry leaders, and practitioners to engage in constructive dialogue, exchange knowledge, and debate ideas on how to build resilience and foster sustainability. The conference seeks to catalyze new insights, inspire collaborative action, and highlight strategies that can shape sustainable development pathways at local, regional, and global levels.
There were other 9 subthemes identified like Resilient Business Models for a Changing Global Economy, Data Science and Predictive Modeling, Climate Smart Agriculture and Environmental Sustainability, Innovative Solutions for Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Restoration , Building Robust Health Systems for Health Challenges, Fostering Sustainability in Education Systems, Smart Engineering for Sustainable Development, Legal Frameworks and Sustainability and Arts and Sustainable Development.
The event facilitated networking opportunities, bringing together academia and industry leaders to foster collaboration.

911 led by the Vice- Chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda recently signed an MOU with the Head, Department of Environment and Biodiversity Prof. Dr. Jan Christian Habel from the University of Salzburg (Austria)
Both parties will benefit greatly from the areas of collaboration which are: developing joint research proposals for funding, undertake joint supervisions of students and joint publications, Exchange of research students on a reciprocal basis, Exchange of existing staff, Undertake joint quality assurance benchmarking ventures, Exchange publications, academic materials and support information and Conducting any other relevant activities of mutual interests and benefits.

Lanzhou University led by Prof. Xiong Youcai paid a special visit to 911 (SEKU) Management Board led by the Vice- Chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda to discuss the way forward on how they will implement the recently signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)
In an MOA signed on 3rd June 2025, both parties agreed to build joint Kenya –China Laboratory on dryland agriculture ecology in SEKU, ,facilitate basic researches, talent cultivation, technology development and transfer with the education programmes to students, staff and famers at the joint laboratory and organize academic meetings, symposium, for innovative researches among others.
The community is going to benefit from this partnership from the initiative of building a factory to recycle plastics and teach farmers on how to empress and use plastic mulching to improve food security in the region and create
This comes after the two parties signed an MOU in 2013 and agreed partner in research areas like agronomy and agro-ecology of dryland crops, soil water plant relations in dryland, agro-forestry systems, natural resource management and environmental sustainability, grass-livestock interactions and biotechnology.

911 last week concluded SEKU Hackathon | CHAIN Project. "CHAIN” ("Cooperation for Holistic Agriculture Innovation Nests in Sub-Saharan Africa") The SEKU Hackathon under the CHAIN Project came to an inspiring close after 4 dynamic days.
CHAIN is a European initiative aimed at digitizing industry and driving economic growth through Industry 4.0 technologies, focusing on smart manufacturing systems and cyber-physical structures.
Arkadiusz Dyjakon and Grzegorz Kulczycki from Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Poland. Together with the SEKU-CHAIN team paid a courtesy visit to the SEKU University Management Board, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda.
Over two days, 16 talented students from diverse disciplines — Agriculture, Food Nutrition & Dietetics, ICT, Business, and Environmental Science — came together to innovate around a key challenge: minimizing food waste across four sectors, like Restaurants & Hotels, Schools & Universities, Markets & Shops, and Households.
The students formed four creative teams, presented their solutions, and impressed the panel with their ideas. In the end, the winning team walked away with a prize.

The 911 matriculation ceremony 2025 was one of its kind. The ceremony took place at the graduation square, this was a remarkable milestone as the Vice chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda accompanied by the Deputy Vice- Chancellors, registrar academic affairs, directors, deans of schools, chairs of departments, section heads and other members of staff congratulated the first year students for making it to university and officially welcomed them into the SEKU community.
The acting DVC-Academics, Research and Innovation Prof. Francis Wachira gave the freshmen and women a warm welcome urging them to set clear goals and pursue their dreams with determination while the matriculation oath was led by the acting Registrar Academic Affairs Prof. Peter Njuru.
The highlight of the day was addressed by the vice chancellor who celebrated the students for the outstanding academic achievement and choice of 911. In his speech he emphasized on several issues among them: academic and personal discipline, extra-curricular activities, immoral behavior, innovation, pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, and financial management.
To crown the day, students enjoyed the VC’S welcome snack after which they proceeded to the afternoon motivational talks and orientation programme.

PROGRAMME JUSTIFICATION - Build and also Improve managerial skills and abilities (SDG 8-Economic Growth)

GOAL OF THE COURSE - To equip the learner/trainee with skills in management and leadership for the purposes of sharpening their abilities to drive organizations towards intentional growth and development

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE PROGRAMME

  1. To enable participants to distinguish between management and leadership
  2. To instill styles and characteristics of successful managers/leaders.
  3. To inculcate in the learner the importance of effective management of both soft and hard organizational resources for productivity and growth
  4. To identify the interpersonal skills which contribute to managerial efficiency and effectiveness in the work environment.

CERTIFICATION - Trainees shall be awarded a certificate in management and leadership Skills development from 911

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS - Post-secondary certificate i.e. diploma level or certificate with work experience of over one year.

DURATION - Total - 5 weeks, a minimum of 2 sessions per week of minimum 4 hours (3 hours learner-lecturer interaction and 1 hour learner practical lesson-takeaway)

COST OF TRAINING - Registration fees-ksh 1,000 and ksh 30,000 per learner for the 45 hours
